Trail Overview

This trail sits deep off Cow Creek Road. You will come to a Y left to continue on Cow Creek Rd and a Right to get to Mine Loop. It starts as a tight, narrow, off-camber route--fun from the very beginning. The main entry point is easy to miss, but once you reach the large, standout palm tree, you'll turn right and climb up to the ridge. At the top, the trail splits left or right. Taking the right leads you to the longer section of the trail. It crosses two washes and winds its way around the mountain with multiple hill climbs. The terrain is rough and bumpy but not overly technical--expect narrow sections, overgrown vegetation, gravel, rocks, and scattered stones up to about 12". There are a few off-camber turns to keep things interesting. You'll be surrounded by classic desert vegetation--saguaros, cholla, prickly pear, and palo Verde trees the entire way. This route eventually climbs to a hilltop and ends near a hidden mine. Use extreme caution here--the mine is unfenced, and there is a large open shaft just above the trail's endpoint. The left fork is shorter but adds exposure. This section follows a shelf road along a ledge overlooking the wash. At the end, you'll reach an open fence and the only real area wide enough to turn around. If you continue about 0.10 miles farther, the trail fades back into nature--overgrown and no longer passable, with a tree growing in the middle of the trail. Most vehicles will need to backtrack from here to turn around.
