Trail Overview

This is a primitive section of powerline trail that is accessible from the Red Spring Campground. It doesn't connect to the rest of the trail system except via US Highway 191, for which you must be street legal. The trail is unmarked and a bit overgrown, entering the pine trees from the entrance of the campground. The trail looks lightly trafficked, with grass growing in the trail, but it is still easy enough to follow through the trees. There are a couple of big dips to watch out for, and shallow ruts, or small rocks hidden beneath the grass, but it is mostly smooth and easy and flat for the first half mile. It turns up the hill underneath the powerlines and starts climbing the hillside below the powerlines. There are more frequent embedded rock faces in the trail, and looser terrain as it climbs up the steep hill, but it is not overly technical. At the top of the powerlines, it descends back down through similar terrain with a bit of loose rock. Mostly it's just grassy through. It keeps following the powerlines over rolling grassy hills, with a few muddy spots, until the legal trail per the MVUM dead ends after 2.5 miles, even though the powerlines continue. You'll have to ride this as an out-and-back.

Difficulty

This is an easier trail as it has a few steep spots with loose rock, but no major rock obstacles, and is mostly fast and straight. The trail is more primitive and overgrown, but still easy to follow. Watch out for hidden rocks underneath the overgrown grass.
