Trail Overview

This trail goes through beautiful Bighorn Mountain meadows. There are numerous camping sites...just park your camper anywhere and stay for 2 weeks for free. You won't see neighbors anywhere close, and you're very likely to have moose and elk wander by your campsite. The historical cabin is restored nicely, and you can go inside it. Healthy forests abound in the Bighorn Mountains. The views are spectacular! Take Highway 16 west out of Buffalo, Wyoming, to the location where this trail leaves the highway. The cabin was built in the late 1800s by two men who needed shelter while grazing cattle and sheep in the summertime. The two men were Dudley Avery Kingsbury and Joseph Todd. Their descendants have restored the cabin and given us its history, more than 100 years after it was built.

Difficulty

The trail shows some erosion in places, and there is one deep valley you go into and out of on your way to or from the cabin, but it's a dirt trail that's easy to ride. Camping up on top would be preferable, as it's easier to find a level spot. But the trail is easy.
