Trail Overview

Starting on the feeder road off Highway 395 north of Brady's Mini Mart, this sandy alternative route heads west toward Short Canyon, serving as another option to reach Short Canyon Trailhead beyond BLM SE139. The trail crosses trails LAP and LA2 along its path. Thick desert flora lines the route, including creosote bushes and smoke trees, with the area gaining fame for wildflowers in spring, creating spectacular displays. Sandy surface features small off-camber sections, ruts, and a few rocks, all under 12 inches scattered throughout. A couple of small hills introduce elevation changes with some whoops adding bounce. This is limited use area requiring staying on established trails.

Difficulty

The sandy surface with small off-camber sections, ruts, and rocks all under 12 inches creates accumulated challenges without individual extreme obstacles. Those couple of small hills with whoops test suspension and momentum management. Airing down helps sandy traction. The thick desert flora creates narrow passages in spots. High clearance handles the sub-12-inch obstacles comfortably. Respect the limited use designation and stay on established trails only. Alternative routing to Short Canyon without being easier than the main route.
