Trail Overview
Pocahontas 69 in the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System begins as a wide road with shallow ruts and potential mud puddles in spring, then narrows between thick rhododendron, climbing steeply with loose rock, sharper turns, and deeper ruts. In one spot, the trail is deeply troughed and eroded four feet below the forest floor, making it narrower between the walls of dirt. There is an optional obstacle on this route: a two-foot-tall blunt rock shelf off to the side of the route. The main route remains easy and wide with slightly more embedded rock as it goes around the obstacle. Though only about a quarter mile long, overall, this trail delivers a quick, steep climb with an optional advanced line.

Difficulty
This is a moderately easy trail, but due to steep grades and the optional rock shelf obstacle, it is a 4 difficulty. Note that it is rated as Most Difficult by the trail system as this is on the upper end of difficulty levels that you will find in the Pocahontas trail system.
