Trail Overview

This SxS trail starts directly from the Pocahontas trailhead within the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, and is very easy for the entire 1.8 miles. It features a consistently wide dirt road with shallow ruts and small loose rocks, making it accessible for all off-road vehicles. The route is lined with tall, widely spaced trees, offering great visibility and gradual, manageable corners throughout. It leads to an intersection where the trail turns left and has more loose rock and segments of broken-down old pavement. The trail stays wide, maintaining enough space for vehicles to pass. The trail eventually connects with Trail 11. It's a great start to your day ride at Hatfield McCoy.

Access Description

The Pocahontas Trail System within Hatfield McCoy is located in Coaldale, West Virginia, with a 2-acre parking lot, a staffed trailhead to purchase permits and merchandise, and on-site restrooms. There is food, fuel, and lodging in the towns of Bramwell and Montcalm. Permits can only be purchased from local vendors or at trailhead facilities, and are valid until December 31st of that year. Overnight camping is not allowed at the trailheads, but there are numerous RV resorts, hotels, and restaurants available in the nearby small towns. The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System spans seven counties and ten trailheads in southern West Virginia through terrain rooted in the region's rich coal mining history.
