Trail Overview

From the west entrance, Trail 99 has a short technical climb up a rocky hillside, completely covered in boulders of varying sizes, forming loose shelves up to a couple of feet tall. Riders have to pick a good line and maintain momentum. It mellows out at the top of the hill until it comes to the intersection with 98. From here, it continues as an easier route with minor ruts and loose rock scattered throughout. In muddier sections, some ruts deepen but remain manageable. The trail passes beneath low-hanging tree branches that create a tunnel-like canopy, and over flat embedded rock surfaces and a few small 6-inch drop-offs. Besides the steep climb at the beginning and a steep descent on the east end, the rest of the trail follows a gradual slope.
