Trail Overview
Jackknife Ridge Road takes you from the Columbia River at Whiskey Dick Creek, up and over Jackknife Ridge. This recorded route ends at Skookumchuck Creek, which may or may not be passible depending on the time of year. This route has beautiful views along the way, and a variety of terrain to navigate. The L.T. Murray Wildlife Area, Whiskey Dick Unit is closed to motor vehicles from February 1st to May 1st for Elk migrations. This shrubsteppe habitat provides great views of the Wild Horse Wind Farm, Columbia River, Sentinel Gap, and the Saddle Mountains. With almost 30,000 acres of land, this area offers amazing trails, with everything from gently rolling hills, to steep off-camber, and rocky sections. Wildflowers in the spring are stunning. Use caution; in the summer, this area can be very hot, with high winds. Be prepared, as there is limited cell coverage in many areas.
