Trail Overview

TNT is a one-third mile point-to-point trail rated 9 of 10 located within the Sand Mountain Open Off-Highway Vehicle Area. Although usually referred to as Sand Hollow this is not part of the state park but managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This trail is for highly skilled drivers looking for extremely challenging terrain. For many years this canyon was untouched. Then a few years ago several crawlers decided to give it a try and TNT was born. The trailhead is located after the first two obstacles on Milt's Mile (gatekeeper and the bowl). The trailhead sign rests at the rim of the canyon with an easy crawl up. But the gatekeeper is just on the other side. A steep off-camber descent into the canyon that has claimed more than its share of tops and cages. Once down to the bottom of the canyon the fun really begins. This is a short trail that just has extreme obstacles one after another until it climbs back out and exits back onto Milt's Mile. Although this trail is on the slope looking at Sand Hollow Reservoir, the only real time you get to enjoy the view is at the trailhead and trail end. The rest of the time you will be looking at walls, "V-notches", cracks, and deep sand transitions. Do not attempt this trail unless you are willing to accept damage to your rig. This trail has the destructive power of TNT so know your limits. Extremely well-built full-body rigs have completed this trail but tend to come away a little worse for wear. Consider yourself warned. Cell phone service is generally good and the nearest services are located in Hurricane.
