Trail Overview
Smithsonian Butte is a National Back Country Byway that offers incredible scenic views in all directions. This byway will not disappoint when starting from the north. It consists of a steep rocky and rutted climb and is highly recommended to air down before ascending from the north or descending from the south. If wanting to avoid the more technical section then approach from the south. This will be impassible after severe weather.
