Red Pine Trail

Trail Overview

If you're visiting Northern Utah during the fall, this trail is a must-see! It begins by passing Smith and Morehouse Reservoir. If you'd like to stop, it's a great spot to cast a fishing line and capture some stunning photographs. There's a developed campground at the trail's end if you plan to stay for a few days. However, our trail takes a right turn before the campground and ascends into the mountains. As you wind through the trail, you'll encounter Majestic Red Pines, which is how the trail got its name. But in the fall, the real highlight is the beautiful yellow leaves of the quaking Aspen trees. The trail is generally easy to navigate, but there's a section with ledges that requires a lifted vehicle to pass. It winds through high mountain meadows and stands of giant pine trees before culminating in an overlook of the reservoir. It's a quick and enjoyable trip, perfect for a picnic, taking pictures, or simply soaking in the natural beauty.

The section with the ledges is slightly off camber, nothing that can't be handled with something similar to a Jeep Wrangler with a 3-inch lift and 33-inch tires; no lockers are necessary.
