Trail Overview
Milt's Mile Light Trail follows along the edge of the more difficult Milt's Mile Trail. This trail is rated 4 out of 10 based upon a couple of the obstacles along the route. This trail can be run by a stock high clearance 4x4. And of course, at almost any point on this trail a driver can drop into Milt's Mile and attempt one of the more difficult 6 or 7 rated obstacles. This trail affords spectacular views of Pine Valley Mountain, Sand Hollow Reservoir, Hurricane Cliffs, and Zion Park. Milt's Mile Light trailhead begins just to the west of the Sand Hollow State Park tunnel. A couple of slickrock climbs provide a good warm-up and an opportunity to see what stock-clearance vehicles are capable of doing. As the trail crests the first ridge trail turns south and continues up the hill. Drivers have the option to drop back down to Milt's Mile and climb "The Bowl" a pretty tough obstacle, but careful driving and good spotting will award drivers with a sense of accomplishment. Continuing on drivers have a chance to check their clearance in a couple of spots. An overlook stop near the top of this section is where you can watch the show as the 7-rated Milt's Mile vehicles negotiate tough obstacles such as "3-Monkies" and "The Sluice" in the canyon below. The trail will continue on past infamous obstacles such as "Hard Right Turn" and "Hard Left Turn". A short trip along the base of some nice rock formations, including a large hoodoo, and you are out of the canyon. Be sure to stop at this point and enjoy the views looking back. From here, cross over a broken fence line and turn back north. As you descend the mountain back towards the lake there are several additional obstacles to negotiate before the trail ends at Waddy's Corral (formerly Water Tanks).
