Difficulty

Moderate. Suitable for stock, high-clearance SUVs unless extremely muddy or snow covered. Allow time in spring for trail to dry out. Nasty mud bog of past years now has easy bypass.

Most of the trail is gravel/dirt road until you hit the "high clearance required" sign, then it becomes one lane over rocks. Very fun and easy trail with fantastic alpine views

Most of the trip would be a “2” but there were some obstacles on the switchbacks mid trail that were much more challenging. Stacking rocks is your friend if you don’t have a performance lift.

Access Description

Head south on Hwy. 191 from Moab. Go about 7 miles and turn left on Old Airport Road after mile marker 118. Pass gravel operation and turn right on Spanish Valley Drive. After 0.6 mile, stay left on La Sal Mountain Loop Road and follow it 4.2 miles to Pack Creek Road, C.R. 128, on right Go 2.7 miles and stay straight on 0073 until you reach vault toilet at 3.0 miles.
