Trail Overview

BLM 32H is a wonderfully wide, 1.9-mile point-to-point sandy transit route that serves as a highly scenic gateway directly into and out of the famous Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Traversing this vivid, deep red-sand trail offers explorers a truly immersive high-desert experience, beautifully framed by lush, vibrant green juniper trees and thick desert scrub under expansive, dramatic skies. Because the track is impressively wide and heavily tracked, it easily accommodates the regular OHV traffic frequently found near the dunes. As you cruise along the undulating, deeply rutted tracks, the breathtaking landscape of rolling sand and distant red rock hills unfolds before you. All visitors must note that since this prominent trail crosses directly into the state park boundaries, a mandatory entrance fee is strictly required for legal access. Ensure you have your passes or payment sorted before fully committing to this beautiful, breezy backcountry drive.

Difficulty

BLM 32H earns a solid Level 2 Easy technical rating entirely due to its exceptionally soft and persistently deep red-sand surface. While the wide, flowing trail completely lacks severe, vehicle-damaging rock ledges, deep water crossings, or threatening off-camber washouts, the thick sand will heavily tax a vehicle's traction. A standard AWD crossover, stock SUV, or high-clearance 2WD truck can manage this route safely under dry conditions, provided the driver maintains steady, deliberate momentum to avoid getting suddenly bogged down. Lowering your tire pressures is highly recommended to vastly improve flotation and increase overall ride comfort across the deep sandy ruts.
