Trail Overview

Marked prominently at its entrance by a brown carsonite trail marker, BLM 106G is a highly scenic, 1.9-mile backcountry two-track that escorts explorers deep into the high desert. The vividly colored, deeply tracked red-sand path playfully meanders through a landscape thickly populated by mature green juniper trees and rustic desert scrub under bright, expansive skies. Because the remarkably soft sand significantly restricts your momentum, the journey naturally dictates a comfortably slow, deliberate driving pace. This relaxed travel speed perfectly allows off-roaders to fully absorb the surrounding natural beauty. Throughout the winding transit, the treeline occasionally breaks to reveal incredibly beautiful, sweeping views of the majestic white stone cliffs towering in the distance. As the trail gracefully rolls over gentle rises and drops through shadowed woodland dips, drivers are treated to a quintessential desert transit that feels beautifully isolated and pristine.

Difficulty

BLM 106G confidently earns a Level 3 Moderate technical rating, driven almost entirely by its exceptionally soft, power-sapping red sand. The distinctly deep ruts and shifting surface make the route notably slow-going. Like most of the rugged trails navigating this specific network, successfully maintaining your forward momentum without bogging down absolutely requires a high-clearance vehicle equipped with a capable four-wheel-drive system. Additionally, drivers will encounter several sections heavily plagued by major, corrugated washboard. Lowering your tire air pressures before leaving the pavement is strictly mandatory to maximize essential flotation in the deep sand and to significantly smooth out the bone-rattling vibrations caused by the rough washboard terrain.
