Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, bears the name of the Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion, who was dubbed the Swamp Fox by the British. It is nestled within the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion and is characterized by a subtropical coniferous forest. This is a very dusty route that follows through the upland hardwood forest. Make sure to follow the path as the road spurs off after about a mile; if you continue straight, you will come to a closed gate and be forced to reverse good ways until there is a turnaround spot.
