Trail Overview
The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, pays homage to the Revolutionary War hero known as the Swamp Fox, Francis Marion. Encompassing the entire Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion and the Subtropical coniferous forest, this park offers a diverse range of landscapes. A notable trail within this forest is part of a network of interconnected trails that span the National Forest. This particular route leads hikers to the historic Battery Warren Fort, situated along the Santee River. Today, only the earthen walls remain, bearing the indentations where the canons once stood. The roundtrip hike from the parking area is approximately 15 minutes.
