Trail Overview

Shoemaker Ridge Road is primarily a dirt road. It is a dead-end road with a turn-around area at a forest service gate. There is a gravel section at the beginning to access the Coffin Rock Fire Tower. This trail is a moderately easy ride in the summer months, however there is no winter maintenance. During times of rain, snow, and ice the road will become harder to travel on. Shoemaker Ridge Road is within Sproul State Forest.

Shoemaker Ridge Road is primarily a dirt road. It will become heavily rutted and washed out in the spring due to snow melting. There is no winter maintenance on this road so during times of snow and ice in the winter it will become harder.

History

Those who claim to know, say the view obtained from this tower is one of the best in the state. The tower takes its name from a large coffin-shaped rock in the vicinity of the tower. This sixty-foot tower was built in 1921 and stands at a ground elevation of 2,325 feet, according to the United States geological survey.
