Meade Run Trail - FS 457A

Trail Overview

FS 457A is an out-and-back adventure through a beautiful section of the Allegheny National Forest. It roughly parallels Meade Run, but at a higher elevation. The road is windy, and at times is a narrow shelf road. Meade Run (creek) can be seen along the drive, adding to the beauty of this adventure. In wet months, there will be numerous puddles throughout the route that are unavoidable. The road may be rutted in sections, though the ruts are not significantly deep. There are minimal opportunities to turn around or reverse safely, so it is strongly suggested to bring a means of clearing downed trees or branches. The surface is entirely dirt, and maintenance in all seasons is limited. Along the way are several oil wells, which appear to be abandoned/out of service. Towards the end of this guided trail, there is a fork which may be overgrown to the left. Take the road to the right (following the route), and there is ample room to turn around at the site of another old oil well. Please note this road is gated, and the gate may be closed at any time.

Road surface is dirt with ruts, which may become muddy. Puddles up to 10" deep may exist in several areas throughout the trail. This road has a gate, and it may be closed and locked at any time.
