Trail Overview
This scenic and quiet gravel trail winds along the stream at Dents Run in Elk State Forest. Yes, seeing elk here is not out of the question, along with other wildlife like deer and wild turkey. This part of Dents Run Road runs between State Game Land 311 and State Game Land 14. There is a gate at State Game Land 14, requiring the driver to park for hunting or turn around. A sign notifies drivers of this 3 miles from the west end of the trail. Don't skip those three miles, as they are some of the most scenic parts of this trail. There are also several hunting camps or cabins at the west end of the trail, too. These exist on state forest property and are leased to Pennsylvania residents for a reasonable annual fee with the provision that they are well-maintained.

History
Dents Run Road is at the center of the famous "Lost Gold of Dents Run" legend. In 1863, a Union wagon train supposedly carrying 52 gold bars destined to pay soldiers disappeared in this area, prompting treasure hunts, federal investigations, and modern intrigue. The FBI even conducted a dig here in 2018, though nothing has officially been found.
