Trail Overview
Crystal Springs Road is primarily a graded gravel road. It is the northern route out of S.B. Elliott State Park. CCC Camp S-116 is located along this road. It is an easy ride in the summer months; however, there is no winter maintenance. During times of rain, snow, and ice, the road can become rutted and harder to travel on. Crystal Springs Road is within the Moshannon State Forest. There are numerous spots to stop along this road and enjoy the foliage and possible wildlife. There are a few campgrounds in this part of Moshannon State Forest to choose from. This region of Pennsylvania is a great place to explore in the fall, when the leaves are changing color, and the full beauty of the State Forest is on display.

History
In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) established Camp S-116 on land along the edge of the nursery and built cabins, pavilions, roads, trails, and many of the other buildings that exist in the park today. During that same year, the former Department of Forests and Waters erected a plaque dedicating Simon B. Elliott State Park. The plaque is on a stone in the pines along the park's northern edge.
