Trail Overview

Cooks Run Road is a very scenic Pennsylvania state forest road that hugs Cooks Run for its entirety. It's the centerpiece of this trail system. It is easy to travel and features 3 very nice dispersed motorized camp sites. Like all Pennsylvania camp sites, these sites require a reservation via Reserve America. During the winter, it is also a joint-use snowmobile trail, so be aware of that when snow is on the ground. The road network in this part of the forest is very scenic, with lots of opportunities to pull off and picnic or relax. As with a lot of Sproul State Forest, this is a remote area with spotty cell service and limited opportunities to provision. The closest gas, food, etc., is in Renovo. Plan accordingly. The trail reaches a dead end at its north end at the trailhead for the Mitchell Trail. Larger vehicles may wish to turn around at the campsite just south of there. Just be courteous to anyone camped there. The road offers access to several hiking trails. The road crosses a power line cut in the forest like many in the area, but the towers are on the terrain above, making them less distracting.
