Trail Overview

Easy-going connector trail between Bessie Butte in the China Hat area, to the Lava Cast Forest. During the summer months, this is a beautiful, relatively tame way to get between these two areas. It's a bit narrow in places, depending on growth. But, with relatively low traffic, it's a great spot to wander around the lava fields away from the more accessible places. In the winter, the roughly 2000' of elevation gained over Bend means that it can offer prime snow wheeling opportunities for most of the season. Just high enough to get the early snow, but not so high of an elevation that it turns to a snowmobile trail.

Difficulty

Mostly a difficulty 2. But, the trail gets overgrown and narrow in the middle section. Expect the possibility of downed trees year round, although most often in winter.
