Trail Overview

Chloride Leatherwood FSR 2142 is a gravel forestry route within the Fredericktown Sector of Mark Twain National Forest, closed yearly for turkey season from 3/31 to 5/16. It features rolling hills leading through the wooded forest area of the Crane Lake area. The primary use of the area is turkey hunting, hosting several camp cutouts throughout the road. The road features mild ruts and soft wet spots that may collect water. At the end, there is a turnaround at 37.43869, -90.60951. From here, the road continues on but fades away as it enters small plots of private property.

Difficulty

The trail's difficulty is minimal, featuring a few small wet spots and mild water erosion ruts, but it is mostly gravel throughout. From the Fredericktown US 67 exit at 37.52169, -90.31355, head west on Missouri Route E for 18.1 miles, turn south onto Iron County Road 134 at 37.44785, -90.57972 for 1.4 miles, and turn right onto the Chloride Leatherwood FSR 2142 at 37.43059, -90.59023.
