Trail Overview

Twisters Trail is everything you would think it is based upon its name. This short bidirectional scenic trail twists and turns many times within its 3/4 mile length. Located within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit near highway US-131 in Crofton, it's easily accessible. Starting from the eastern end at the intersection of North Crofton Road Southwest, you'll start on a bumpy, sandy, dirt two-track in the forest. You'll weave through the trees alongside the lush vegetation edging the trail. Be sure to take it all in. As you progress down the trail, you'll venture around tall sandy berms that give this track a fun side to it. Please TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail by any means, but it contains a lot of fun and beauty, and gives access to other great trails nearby. The western end of the trail finishes at Boardman River Road Southwest. Regardless of the conditions or length of this trail, it's an awesome route to check out! As always, again, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
