Trail Overview

This is Trail SB located in Ontonagon County Michigan. This trail runs from the intersection of Hokens Road and Trail SB Bruce Crossing to Trail SB's end point in Bergland. This trail, like the majority of trail SB is a converted railroad grade. The scenery along this trail is a mix of trees alongside the trail, with wide open farm fields in the surrounding background. The trail also crosses the Ontonagon River before entering the town of Bergland. The trail surface is mostly small, tightly packed rock that lends itself to a very smooth and fast trail. Additionally, this surface does not experience the washboard effect that is common on other railroad grades. Trail SB is open to wheeled vehicle traffic from April 1st to November 30th. The remainder of the year it is a groomed snowmobile trail.

Difficulty

This trail can be completed by riders of all experience levels. The trail is very mild and well taken care of, allowing for very relaxing cruising while trying to make up some miles or quickly reach a destination. The surface on the trail is very small rocks, which pack quite well, allowing the trail to remain mostly washboard-and rut-free. This again creates a very relaxing driving environment. The trail is wide enough for smaller machines to pass at speed; however, machines over 60" wide will need to slow down to pass each other safely. With the elevation of the grade, it does not easily collect water, and because of this, the trail will rarely ever have water spots.
