Trail Overview
North Boardman River Trail is a bumpy and sandy bidirectional trail within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located just NW of Crofton near highway US-131, this trail is easily accessible. Starting from the northern end of Boardman River Road Northwest, you'll start on a bumpy, sandy ORV route. You'll twist and turn and shake your way through the woods as you travel down the route. 0.8 miles in, you'll travel through a thicker section of the forest with towering trees and lush vegetation edging the trail. Be sure to take it all in. Shortly after, you'll whip around a small swampy pond around some bigger sandy berms. The route is part of the Grand Traverse to Leetsville MCCCT & the Traverse City ORV Route. Please TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for vehicles with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it does contain a lot of washboard sections. This trail also gives access to other great trails nearby. The southern end of the trail finishes back at Boardman River Road near Taylor Creek. Regardless of the conditions of this trail, it's a fun route to check out! As always, again, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
