Trail Overview
National Forest Service Trail 9602 is a short access trail to hiking trails within Brush Lake Recreation Area. Located off East 6 Mile Road, this route is readily accessible. This trail is typically easy. Most of the trail is a combination of sand and dirt. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. There is one section that has a bit of side hilling required, but it's not very tippy. There is also one mud hole that can get rutted out along this trail. The campground is first come, first serve and has a fee for day use as well as a camping fee. For more information, check out the US Forest Service Website. There is a drive-in boat launch on the eastern shore of the river and a smaller carry-in boat launch in the campground. This site is very popular with anglers and hunters. It is also a popular wildlife viewing area and a good stop for viewing fall colors. At the end of this trail, you'll be greeted by a large beech tree, where the hiking trail begins. Reference the information board at the campground loop on NFS 5534 for more information on camping regulations. All in all, this is a great trail for everybody!
