Trail Overview
NFS 5311 is a very easy offroad trail near the towns of Bitely and Lilley. The trail is a combination of gravel, sand, and dirt. You'll twist through a gorgeous section of the Manistee National Forest as you progress down the trail. This trail is cool since it offers a variety of spur trails and outdoor activities along it. One spur trail leads to Kenosha Lake and its campsites. Another spur trail leads to Condon Lake. The main trail NFS 5311 has more spur trails to be explored as well. If you partake in any dispersed or backcountry camping, please be sure to check the camping regulations for this area. The North Country National Scenic Trail also crosses over the trail once and runs alongside it. If you're unfamiliar with this hiking trail, it spans a distance between North Dakota and Vermont, traveling over 4800 miles! Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Most of this trail is wide enough for 2 vehicles. Regardless of the conditions, this is a wonderful and very easy trail that will surely lead you to an awesome adventure!
