FS 6102

Trail Overview

NFS 6102 is a fun and classic Michigan two-track trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located near East Van Buren Road and North 168th Avenue, this trail is easily accessible. Starting out you'll begin on a sandy/dirt two track along a row of beautiful pine trees. The track starts out fairly wide without any overgrowth of vegetation or tight trees, but that quickly changes. You'll bump along over exposed tree roots as you progress down the trail. Eventually the route narrows up with swamp land following the edges of the track. One particular spot on this trail is noteworthy. Coming from the SE side of this trail, there is a large mud hole at the 0.6 mile marker. Proceed with caution. This spot can be VERY rutted out and recent weather will dictate how bad this spot ends up being. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! The trail finishes in a tight section of the forest at Winter Road with a lot of overgrown vegetation. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. Beyond the mud hole, this is not a difficult trail, and regardless of the length or conditions, it's a beautiful and scenic route to explore with a lot of fun to be had!
