Trail Overview
FS 5746 is a beautiful two-track that winds through the Manistee National Forest. The trail features a mix of sand and dirt, is generally easy to travel on, and offers occasional room to pass. Some sections can become muddy after rain or feel a bit tight due to the surrounding trees, but nothing too challenging for most vehicles. Along the way, you'll enjoy a mix of dense pine forest and open clear-cuts with wide views of the surrounding landscape. You may also notice burn marks at the base of some trees, evidence of controlled burns conducted by the Forest Service to maintain ecosystem health. As you explore these routes, it's important to follow Tread Lightly and Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the forest for future visitors. Stay on designated trails, avoid driving through sensitive or waterlogged areas when possible, and pack out everything you bring in. Respect wildlife, minimize your impact, and leave the area better than you found it so these beautiful landscapes remain wild and accessible for years to come.
