Trail Overview
Forest Service Road 7120 is a scenic and rewarding trail that winds north to south through the Manistee National Forest, following alongside the Manistee River. The trail is a one vehicle wide and dirt based route, with varying terrain that includes stretches of dirt, sand, and occasional mud. For much of the drive, it's easy and enjoyable. However, approximately 1 mile from either direction, there is a low lying section featuring a long stretch of deep, rutted out mud holes. While most stock 4x4 vehicles should be able to handle this area, caution is advised especially following recent rain. FS 7120 also offers stunning forest and river views, with several primitive camping opportunities, particularly on the west side near the river, where the scenery is especially peaceful. This trail is ideal for anyone looking to explore this part of the national forest or seeking excellent overland camping spots. Due to unreliable cell coverage, downloading offline maps before your trip is highly recommended.
