Trail Overview

The Coast Guard is a non-maintained trail that welcomes vehicles of all types and sizes, from large 4x4s to dirt bikes. Primarily composed of sugar sand, the trail is flanked by dense forests and expansive open areas. Its culmination offers a breathtaking scenic overlook of Lake Superior, making it an absolute must-see. While the trail itself presents some challenges, including rough terrain with whoops, washboarding, and deep sand, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended for navigating it. Additionally, there's a small spur trail that leads to the Two-Hearted River, an absolute must-stop for its stunning views.
