Trail Overview
Brown Farm Trail is an easy bidirectional seasonal trail within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located just west of Kalkaska near highway US-131, this trail is easily accessible. Starting from the southern end of Island Lake Rd NW, you'll start on a gravel road with thick and lush vegetation edging the trail. You'll twist and turn along this route as you change in elevation. Be sure to take it all in. The forest and nature are the highlights of this trail, beyond the fact that it's a quick connector trail. Remember, please TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. Like most of Michigan's off-road trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, ruts, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is 2 vehicles wide with several places to pass. This is not a difficult trail, but it does contain a lot of natural beauty. You will likely see hikers along this route, as there are several hiking trails that run through this section of the forest. This trail also gives access to other great off-road trails nearby. The northern end of the trail finishes at Brown Fire Lane Northwest. Regardless of the conditions or length of this trail, it's a cool route to check out! As always, again, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
