Trail Overview
In less than 10 miles, you'll gain 3,492 feet in elevation on this well-maintained forest road and it is the gateway to the trailhead for Blue Lake. West Mountain Road will take you deep into the Boise National Forest and offer nearly unlimited options to explore this little section of Idaho. In the late spring and early summer months, bear hunters and locals collecting firewood will frequent this area. Though the road is well maintained, several sections are washboarded. 4WD or AWD is highly recommended to preserve the integrity of the road. There are plenty of places to camp for tent camping, car camping, or even overlanders. This area is part of the Rocky Mountains and offers unspoiled views of the Sawtooth Mountains to the east. Be prepared for sudden and extreme weather changes such as mountain storms. Cell signal ranges from nonexistent to a full 5G signal depending on where you are.
