Trail Overview
This is a nice scenic shelf drive along the Salmon River. There are many spots for fishing and a few dispersed camping spots around. Be sure to watch for the metal fire rings that mark where they are or look for the numbered posts. Most of the trail is easy and flat, with large potholes that can get very deep when wet. Be aware of frequent rock slides, as this road runs right below a cliff. Be sure to bring gloves to move any rocks from the trail that may make it impassable. It's a beautiful drive and only gets cell service at one point for just a minute. It may not be maintained in the winter and may be impassable. You may see deer, elk, and ospreys while you enjoy the drive.
