Trail Overview

A nice scenic shelf drive along the Salmon River. There are many spots for fishing, a few numbered dispersed camping spots around. Be sure to watch for the metal fire rings that mark where they are or the numbered posts. Most of the trail is easy and flat, with large potholes that can get very deep when wet. Be sure to be aware of frequent rock slides as this road runs right below a cliff. Be sure to bring gloves in order to move any rocks from the trail that may make it impassable. It's a beautiful drive and kind of gets cell service at one point for just a minute. It may not be maintained in the winter and may be impassable. You may see Deer, Elk, and Ospreys while you enjoy the drive.

Difficulty

Mostly easy but rockslides of a decent size could make it impassable. We were able to clear three manually with gloves but I could see how a large one after a rainstorm would need equipment in order to clear it.
