Trail Overview
This trail is part of the Pennal Gulch Sportsmen's Access Area on the Salmon River. Public access at Pennal Gulch is provided through an easement across private property. The road is closed to access from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise throughout the year. There are two gates at either end of the private property that need to be closed after accessing them. There is a rather large puddle or possible water crossing at one of the gates. Once across the Private access land, the trail drops down into a marshy area with some good bird watching potential. Continuing on, the road surface changes from dirt to river rocks and is a bit bumpy but not difficult. There are a few areas where the trees narrow a bit and then open up. There is a boat access area to pull rafts out, then a little further down the trail at the end it opens up to some nice spots right on the Salmon River that look across at sandy red cliffs. This is a beautiful area and a very nice spot to spend the day.

Difficulty
Access to the private land has a water crossing at one of the gates, it's possible that the crossing is seasonal. Could be muddy and sloppy in spring. The end of the trail is rocky riverbed and quite bumpy.
