Trail Overview
Klawa Creek Trail will take you through a combination of lighter open forest and thicker dark timber. The trail is mostly dirt, with some sections covered in a light amount of larger gravel. On this trail, you'll experience some steep climbs, sharp switchback turns, weaving between logs that are cut out of the trail, and over some off-camber/sloped sections. This trail passes through a section of forest that burned in the Sand Mountain Fire of summer 2021, in this area, you'll see a lot of blackened trees and lots of debris on the ground.
Difficulty
There are sections that have experienced some washout, large rolling kelly-humps/tank traps built into the trail, deeper mud/water crossings during wetter weather, and some banked/off camber areas.
History
This trail passes through a portion of the forest that burned in the Sand Mountain Fire of Summer 2021 that burned over 1600 acres in the thick timber. You will be able to see the fireline that was built to contain the fire and will see a lot of blackened trees and very little to no underbrush in the timber.
