Trail Overview

Old River Road is a fun and exciting experience of a narrow sandy trail with water crossings and sticky mud pits. It's a classic Florida swampland experience with tall southern pines white sand and the perfect environment for alligators. Make sure you air down and check each crossing prior to passing through. Several of them are deeper than they appear with the dark muddy water. We mapped this trail on our own and without a proper snorkel and second vehicle. After encountering the final water crossing at least 50 yards in length and no depth in sight we decided to turn around. It was apparent that many other vehicles have turned around at this exact point. This could be a very challenging obstacle without the proper vehicle, gear, and recovery equipment. Pass at your own risk. Entering Old River Road from the south the trail appears to be in good shape and this could be the deepest obstacle along this trail.
