Trail Overview
The East South Cross Trail, also known as Ocala National Forest Road 14, connects the Tread Lightly Four Wheel Drive Way (Florida's only Jeep Badge of Honor trail) at the west end and Railroad Grade Trail at the east end in the south part of the Ocala National Forest. ONF 14 goes all the way from east to west but is divided into different parts. The road conditions are a mixture of packed sand, loose sand, and some deep holes that can turn into 2 feet deep mud holes after rainy days. The road is always wide enough for two vehicles to pass if you stay on the main road. There are several sections south of the power line that are more difficult alternative routes. 4WD and high clearance are recommended. All vehicles must be street-legal. Ocala National Forest is in Florida, north of Orlando. It's known for its large areas of sand pine scrub forest. The Juniper Springs, Alexander Springs, and Salt Springs recreation areas have natural pools and canoe runs. There are hundreds of lakes and ponds in the area including Lake Kerr and the enormous Lake George.
