Trail Overview

This trail starts out at the intersection with Rock Creek Loop (Trail 1) just south of the Bald Mountain Staging Area. It starts out as a wide shelf road that is smooth and flat, in a dry and sparse forest of Ponderosa pines. It is gradual and flat for the entire route, making it super easy for riders of all skill levels. There is potential for log hazards along the route, such as downfall at awkward angles or small branches hanging at head height, although most logs have been cut, and it looks like the trail system typically gets cleared for the season. There are minor features like dips and bumps and shallow ruts, but it isn't very rocky. The trail corridor narrows up a bit as it goes west, getting tighter between the bushes and shelfy along the side of the hill, but it remains easy and obstacle-free. It ends at the intersection with Trail 10.

Access Description

The Rock Creek Trail System is located in the Eldorado National Forest near the town of Georgetown, California. Take Wentworth Springs Road east from the town of Georgetown, and follow the signs for either the Mace Mill Staging Area or the Bald Mountain Staging Area. Both are small and primitive staging areas with space for several vehicles to park and a small trailer turnaround. The third staging area, 5 Corners, is also small and primitive, located by either taking Rock Creek Road or FS 12N72 south of Wentworth Springs Road. The trails are open year-round, but close often during wet conditions, so it is advised to call the Georgetown Ranger District for the status of the trail system: (530) 334-6477. The trails are well-marked and highly maintained, ranging from easy to advanced.
