Trail Overview

Welcome to the high-country burn scar! This short, intense two-track scrambles up through the devastating 2020 Creek Wildfire burn above 7,900 feet, towards the Ansel Adams Wilderness boundary. The trail offers a dramatic, otherworldly experience (visible in photos). The trail surface is mostly loose dirt, resulting in poor traction on the steep, off-camber scrambles that require precise wheel placement. The route is littered with "hunter braids" (detours) where drivers have skirted around large fallen timber. The trail dead-ends at the wilderness boundary.

Difficulty

The difficulty comes from the combination of steep grades and extremely loose material, which creates traction challenges and forces the vehicle into minor off-camber situations. 4WD and high clearance are mandatory to successfully maintain forward momentum and navigate around exposed granite and fallen trees.
