Trail Overview

Probably the best views from any trail in the area, this road winds down the side of the mountain to a scrub bush flat with a few fire pits along the way. On the trip, you will cross a small creek that I think may be the only year-round running water in the area, but it is never more than a trickle. After the flat area towards the end, the road turns to more of a Jeep trail, with some tight overgrowth and canber, but it's not much of a trail; there are times where you are unsure which direction it goes in, and there is not really any payoff for navigating it, it just ends without so much as a turnaround or parking area. The road looks like it passes through to Lockwood Valley, but this is across private property, and there is a large gate in this direction.

Difficulty

You could probably make this whole trail without 4x4 if it has been dry for a bit, but there are a couple of bumps where you should probably have the clearance of a stock SUV to surmount. The trail is seasonal, since the road up to Mount Pinos is gated during the snow season.
