Trail Overview
Mount Raymond Road (FS 5S006) is a shapeshifter of a trail that offers a little bit of everything for the backcountry explorer. The journey begins innocently enough on a well-graded forest road, lulling you into a false sense of security as you cruise through the pines. However, the character of the drive soon shifts as you climb higher. The smooth dirt transitions into sections of embedded boulders and rocky tread, demanding you slow your roll and pick a line. About midway through, you'll encounter some legitimate small rock obstacles and rough patches that serve as the trail's gatekeepers, bumping the difficulty up a notch. Once you conquer the chunky middle section, the trail rewards you by opening up near the summit into a fast, flowy two-track with peek-a-boo views of the valley below. It's a dynamic drive connecting excellent dispersed camping spots like the popular Goat Mountain Sno Play area.

Difficulty
While large portions of this trail are a comfortable Rating 2, the overall rating is elevated to a 3 due to the rougher, rockier middle segment. Drivers will face sections of embedded boulders and loose rocks that require careful wheel placement to avoid undercarriage strikes. The presence of small rock obstacles means you can't just power through in 2WD; 4WD and high clearance are necessary to navigate these technical patches smoothly. It's a fun, engaging challenge without being a car-breaker.
