Trail Overview

Part 5 of the Cady Mountain Loop continues in the twisting sand wash that runs through a narrow canyon. After about 3 miles, it widens into a wide soft sand wash. This section will require 4-wheel drive high to keep from getting bogged down in the deep sand sections. As the sand wash widens, there are several paths available to take. All will end at the same section of the loop. While this section of the loop is only about 5 miles, it is somewhat more challenging than sections 1-3 and about the same level of difficulty as loop 4. The canyon widens but still provides some great scenery as the cliffs off to the right have some interesting geological shapes.

Difficulty

Use 4WD high in this section just to stay above the deep sections of sand and to help navigate through the winding turns. There are fewer obstacles than Loop 4 has, but drivers will need to pay attention as the trail changes directions quickly in a couple of sections.
