BLM SC106

Trail Overview

Starting at BLM LA1, this fine sand route runs 1.5 to 2 vehicles wide along the Eastern Sierra Mountain foothills. Alternating between hard pack and deeper soft sand creates variable traction conditions. The trail is relatively flat, but bumps require maneuvering around and through those scattered throughout. Deep ruts appear that you can navigate around, avoiding direct engagement. The route is lined with small desert brush, Joshua trees, and seasonally blooming wildflowers. Various established campsites marked by wood fencing appear along the trail, providing designated staging. The trail crosses BLM SC82 and Frog Creek BLM SC47 before terminating at the Kiavah Wilderness edge.

Difficulty

Fine sand alternating between hard pack and deeper soft sections requires momentum adjustment as conditions change. Those deep ruts offer bypass options, keeping difficulty manageable. The bumps to maneuver around and through add navigation considerations without extreme obstacles. The 1.5 to 2 vehicle width provides comfortable room. Relatively flat terrain makes this accessible despite the variable sand conditions. Four wheel drive and airing down help with deeper soft sand sections. Overall, a straightforward route to the Wilderness boundary and established camping.
