Trail Overview
This 8-mile out-and-back trail runs in a small wash with 10 to 15-foot-tall sand walls creating a dramatic enclosed canyon environment. The route is lined with large desert bushes and trees, with some that are overgrown and may hit your vehicle as you drive by, so be prepared for brush contact. The surface is mostly loose sand with some rocks along the way, adding variety to the terrain. After the first mile, the trail comes out of the lower wash and continues on a smaller wash with walls only 2 feet tall, transitioning to a more open feeling. At mile 2, the walls have disappeared, and you're in just an open desert, completing the transition from deep canyon to flat open terrain.

Difficulty
The mostly loose sand requires four wheel drive, and airing down is recommended for maintaining traction. The overgrown bushes and trees that may hit your vehicle are a consideration, particularly for taller or wider rigs. Some rocks along the way are minor obstacles. The wash environment means flash flood awareness is important. The progressive opening from 10 to 15 foot walls to 2 foot walls to open desert makes navigation easier as you progress. Be cautious near the sand walls, as they do collapse, as you will see.
