Trail Overview
This trail is located in the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Open Riding Area, the largest in California, where registered OHV and highway legal vehicles are allowed. The route is a narrow wash with lots of deep sand areas throughout that demand constant momentum management. The wash gets down to one vehicle wide at times, creating tight quarters with no room for error. You'll encounter areas of scattered rocks up to basketball size that add obstacles to navigate around or over. The trail cuts through a small canyon with some mud walls creating a dramatic enclosed setting. There are various spur trails that cut across to Arroyo Salado Wash and Tule Wash, providing alternate routing options.

Difficulty
There are many deep sand areas that require four wheel drive and airing down is essential for maintaining traction. The narrow sections getting down to one vehicle wide leave no margin for error and demand precise navigation. The scattered rocks up to basketball size are significant obstacles requiring careful line choice and high clearance. The combination of deep sand, narrow width, and basketball-sized rocks makes this a challenging wash route.
