Trail Overview
This off-road route, accessed from Highway 89 about 10 miles from the 395 junction, offers a scenic and steadily more rugged adventure into the Sierra backcountry. The trail begins with a sandy dirt surface, scattered rocks, and a few muddy sections after rain. Roughly a mile in, drivers encounter a downhill rock garden with stones under 12 inches--just technical enough to demand your attention. Beyond Mile 1.6, the trail transitions into a rock-dominated path with varying smaller-sized rocks. Though not extreme, high clearance and 4WD are strongly recommended if you plan to explore deeper. The narrow, one-vehicle-wide track reveals sweeping mountain views and offers a few peaceful dispersed camp spots for those seeking solitude.

Difficulty
This trail presents a moderate challenge. While early portions are manageable, the rock gardens and increasingly rocky conditions past Mile 1.6 require careful tire placement and decent ground clearance. Soft mud and ruts after rain may create traction issues. Not suitable for low-clearance vehicles. High-clearance 4x4s with durable all-terrain tires are recommended for a confident drive. There are typically mud holes at the beginning of the trail after rain.
