Trail Overview
This single vehicle-wide sandy trail is full of lots of very deep sand and washboards throughout. The route starts at the base of open dispersed camping and heads east, beginning narrow before the trail gets wider as you leave the main camping area. The trail is lined with creosote bushes and other desert flora, creating a vegetated corridor. You'll cross main washes, including Fault Wash and Military Wash, and the route gives access to Palo Verde Wash. The trail gets smoother as you head east, improving in quality as you progress. There's a public toilet on this trail for visitors' convenience. Although the name implies it, there isn't a lake, nor is this an actual loop, so the name is somewhat misleading. Four wheel drive and good tires are highly recommended for the conditions.

Difficulty
The lots of very deep sand requires four wheel drive and good tires, which are highly recommended, with airing down essential for maintaining traction. The full washboards create a very bumpy, jarring ride throughout, but aren't technically difficult. The single vehicle width at the start requires careful navigation, though the widening trail makes things easier. The wash crossings are straightforward. The trail getting smoother heading east is a bonus.
